Rearrange a PDF's pages into booklet imposition order, so that printing double-sided, folding the stack and stapling the spine produces a booklet whose pages read in sequence. Accuracy, limits, and good practice
- Booklets need a page count divisible by four; blank pages are added to reach it, which is why the last leaf may be empty.
- Print double-sided with the flip-on-short-edge setting — flipping on the long edge upends every second page.
- Test with two sheets first. Folding a misprinted eight-page proof is far cheaper than discovering the problem after a hundred copies.

Why is the page order scrambled in the file?
That is imposition. The order looks wrong flat and comes out correct once the sheets are folded and nested.
Which binding edge should I choose?
Left for left-to-right languages, right for right-to-left ones such as Arabic and Hebrew.
Can I make a booklet from A5 pages?
Choose the sheet size you will print on; the source pages are scaled to fit two per side of that sheet.
