Accuracy, limits, and good practice
- The output contains values; formulas referencing dropped columns would be broken, so results are written instead of formulas.
- One worksheet is extracted at a time — repeat per sheet and recombine with the merge tool if you need several.
- Removing a column here removes it from the copy only, but remember that hidden columns in a shared original are still in the file; extraction genuinely deletes.
Frequently asked questions
Does this preserve cell formatting?
Data comes through cleanly; elaborate formatting may be simplified. For layout-critical files, copy columns within Excel instead.
Why extract instead of hiding columns?
Hidden columns travel with the file and anyone can unhide them. Extraction produces a copy that truly does not contain the data.
Can I reorder columns at the same time?
Selection drives inclusion; for a specific order, run the result through the Excel column reorder tool.
