RGB Channel Splitter
Separate an image into red, green, and blue channel images
RGB Channel Splitter — what it does
Separate an image into its red, green and blue components, producing one image per channel. Seeing the channels apart is how you understand what an image is actually made of — and it is the starting point for channel-based editing, print separation checks and a range of graphic effects.
When this tool helps
- Inspecting which channel carries the noise in a photo shot at high ISO.
- Preparing separated channels for a glitch or chromatic-aberration style effect.
- Teaching or demonstrating how additive colour builds a full-colour image.
How to use it
- Choose the image.
- Process the channel split.
- Review the red, green and blue outputs.
- Download the channel images.
Accuracy, limits, and good practice
- The green channel usually carries the most perceived detail, which is why sensors capture twice as many green photosites as red or blue.
- High-ISO noise concentrates in the blue channel; splitting shows immediately where the grain in a night shot comes from.
- Skin tones sit strongly in the red channel, which is why retouching workflows often work channel by channel.
Frequently asked questions
Why does each channel look grey?
A channel is an intensity map. Showing it in its own colour is a display convention; the underlying data is a single-value-per-pixel image.
Can I recombine the channels afterwards?
Not with this tool. Recombining requires an editor that can load each channel back into its slot.
Is this the same as CMYK separation?
No. RGB is additive for screens; CMYK separation is for printing and requires a colour-managed conversion.
