Accuracy, limits, and good practice

- A consistent naming convention — 2026-01, 2026-02 — keeps sheets sorted and scriptable.
- Rename before sharing rather than after: a tab called Copy of Sheet1 (2) tells the recipient more about your process than you probably intended.

Can two sheets share a name?
No, Excel requires unique tab names within a workbook, so duplicates are rejected.
Do formulas referencing the renamed sheet break?
References within the same workbook follow the rename. Links from other files do not, and will need updating there.
Can I reorder tabs at the same time?
Renaming and reordering are separate passes — run the sheet reorder tool after this one.
Are hidden sheets listed too?
Check the sheet list against what you expect. Hidden sheets remain in the workbook whether or not you rename them.
